Suriname in South America is full of legends and folk lore. The Asima is a vampire that not only drinks blood but transforms into a blue ball of light after it feeds on its victims. This daywalker looks human in the sunlight but at night it sheds it skin and travels the night as a blue ball draining the blood of it's victims.
Suspected Asimas were captured during the day, then the authorities would observe the creature through the night until it was forced to shed it's skin and become a blue ball of light.
